Accessing water is the key to all daily activities in Malawi and a burden primarily experienced by women and young girls. Moving Windmills uses a human-powered design and provides training on how to maintain systems and equipment. All drill bits are designed and manufactured in Malawi and made available to community members. Percussion drilling costs are labor-intensive but require only materials and are a fraction of other drilling method costs, $1,500 vs. $5,000.
